Course Description A comprehensive survey of the history, geography, and social structures of the Counter-Earth. This course examines the fundamental institutions of Gorean society, with specific emphasis on the Caste System, the legal authority of the Magistrate, and the sanctity of the Home Stone. Topics include military science, urban geography, linguistics, and the theological role of the Priest-Kings. Designed to provide a foundational literacy in Gorean culture and the natural order for both new and established citizens.

Course Outline & Weekly Schedule

Week 1: The Foundation The Counter-Earth Theory: Specific gravity and location relative to Terra. The Home Stone: Definitions, sanctity, and the spiritual necessity of the city. Arrival: Voyages of Acquisition and integration methods.

Week 2: The Caste System (Hierarchy of Order) High Castes: Initiates, Scribes, Builders, Physicians, Warriors. Low Castes: Peasants, Artisans, and supporting roles. Mechanics: Caste mobility, "Loss of Caste," and color identification codes.

Week 3: Law and Custom (The Magistrate’s Domain) Civility: Protocols of greeting (Tal!), respectful address, and Warrior etiquette. The Judiciary: The Magistrate's role; City Decrees vs. Common Law. Rituals: Guest rights, sharing of salt, and lighting of the lamps.

Week 4: Military Science The Warrior Caste: The Code of the Sword vs. the soldier. The Tarn Cavalry: Biology, tack, and aerial tactics. Infantry & Siege: The phalanx, the gladius, and circumvallation.

Week 5: Geography and Environmental Studies Topography: The Voltai, The Thassa, The Sardar, and The Tahari. Urban Centers: Ar, Ko-ro-ba, Port Kar, and Turia. Fauna: Identification of Tharlarion, Sleen, Larl, and Kaiila.

Week 6: Linguistics and The Arts Speech: Sentence structure, formal vs. vulgar Gorean. The Scribes: Scroll preservation, ink-making, and history. Performance: Drama, poetry, and recitation.

Week 7: Social Dynamics (The Natural Order) Gender Philosophy: Biological and philosophical distinctions. The Free Woman: Status, the Veil, and Robes of Concealment. Slavery: The kajira/kajirus, the collar, and legal distinctions from the Free.

Week 8: Daily Life on Gor Cuisine: Ka-la-na, Sa-Tarna, Vulo, and Tarsk. Fashion: Tunics, cloaks, and caste-appropriate footwear. Leisure: The rules and cultural significance of Kaissa.

Week 9: Economics and Trade The Merchant Caste: Codes of Profit. Currency: The Tarn (Gold), Tarsk (Silver), Tarskbite (Copper). Logistics: Vosk river traffic and Tahari caravan routes.

Week 10: Theology and Philosophy The Priest-Kings: Rulers of the Sardar, nature, and the Flame Death. The Initiates: Rituals, omens, and dietary restrictions. Ethics: Honor, pride, and survival.

Student Requirements Attendance: Punctuality is mandatory. Doors are barred strictly at the top of the Ahn. Materials: Wax tablet and stylus (for notation) required for all sessions. Final Assessment: Submission of a written scroll summarizing a key topic covered during the cycle.
