300 Week 4: The War Against Death (The Physicians, The Serums, and The Truce)
Here is the comprehensive lecture script for GOR 300, Week 4.
This lecture examines the Green Caste. It explores the paradox of Gorean medicine: a society that glorifies war and death yet possesses medical technology far superior to Earth's in one specific area—Life Extension. We study the Physicians, the Stabilization Serums, and the sacred neutrality of the Green Truce.
Lecture Script: GOR 300 - The Gorean City
Instructor: Magistrate Kati Evans Location: Gorean College of Lara / Ar’s Station Educational Hall Week 4: The War Against Death (The Physicians, The Serums, and The Truce) Duration: Approx. 60 Minutes
◈═══════════════════════◈
I. Introduction: The Neutral Hand (00-10 Mins)
(Action: The room smells of antiseptic and herbs—crushed sulba and kanda. On the desk sits a rack of glass vials filled with clear liquid, a scalpel, and a green tunic. You stand behind the desk, holding the scalpel carefully.)
Magistrate Evans: Tal.
A Warrior breaks the body. A Scribe records the death. An Initiate prays for the soul. But one man stands between the wound and the grave. The Physician.
The Green Caste. They are the scientists of Gor. In a world of superstition and steel, they represent Reason. They are the only men on Gor who can walk onto a battlefield unarmed and not be killed.
Today, we study the Medical Arts. We will look at the most valuable substance on the planet: the Stabilization Serums (the reason we do not age). We will discuss the Green Truce—the law that protects doctors even in the midst of slaughter. And we will look at the dark side of their science: the Genetic Breeding of the slave.
Open your tablets. And be grateful. Without the Green Caste, a simple scratch could kill you.

II. The Miracle: The Stabilization Serums (10-25 Mins)
(Action: Pick up a vial of clear liquid. Hold it to the light.)
Magistrate Evans: Why do Gorean warriors look 25 when they are 400? Why do our women remain beautiful for centuries? It is not magic. It is this. The Stabilization Serum.
The Science: Developed centuries ago (likely with help from the Priest-Kings), the Serum halts the aging process.
Administration: It is given in a series of injections (the "Series") usually starting around age 20-25.
The Effect: It stops cellular decay. You do not get old. You do not get cancer. You stay in your prime indefinitely.
The Catch: It does not make you immortal. A sword still kills you. Poison still kills you. But Time... Time cannot touch you.
The Economics: The Serums are expensive. The Physicians control the supply. This makes the Green Caste incredibly powerful. Even a Ubar does not want to anger the man who controls his youth.

III. The Battlefield: The Green Truce (25-40 Mins)
Magistrate Evans: Gor is a violent world. War is constant. If Physicians were killed in every battle, there would be no one left to fix the winners.
Therefore, we have the Green Truce.
The Rules:
Neutrality: A Physician treats all wounded. Friend or Foe. He does not ask allegiance; he looks only at the wound.
Immunity: To intentionally kill a Physician on the battlefield is a War Crime. It is considered "Bad Luck" and dishonorable.
The Limits: A Physician may not bear arms (except a small knife for defense). If he picks up a sword, he breaks the Truce and can be killed like any other soldier.
Magistrate’s Insight: This neutrality allows Physicians to travel freely. They are often used as diplomats or spies because they can cross enemy lines without question.

IV. The Dark Science: Genetics and Breeding (40-50 Mins)
(Action: Put down the vial. Pick up a diagram of a slave brand.)
Magistrate Evans: Gorean medicine is not just about healing. It is about Optimization. The Physicians assist the Slavers in the Breeding of slaves.
The Theory: They view the slave girl not as a person, but as a biological specimen.
They select for beauty (Passion Slaves).
They select for strength (Draft Slaves).
They select for silk (The Spinning Slaves).
The Examination: When a slave is sold, a Physician examines her. He checks her teeth, her hips, her health. He certifies her "Quality." It is cold. It is clinical. It strips away all humanity and reduces the subject to a collection of biological assets.
◈═══════════════════════◈
V. Ethics: The Oath of the Green (50-55 Mins)
Magistrate Evans: Do they have an Oath? Yes. But it is not the Hippocratic Oath of Earth ("Do no harm"). It is the Oath of Function.
"I shall repair the vessel. I shall extend the life. I shall serve the truth of the flesh."
The Loophole: A Physician will not kill... but he will advise on how to cause pain without killing. Physicians are often present during Torture. Not to torture, but to monitor the victim. To say: "Stop now, or he will die. Let him rest, then continue." They use their science to maximize suffering by keeping the victim alive longer than nature intended.

VI. Conclusion & Assignment (55-60 Mins)
(Action: Wipe the scalpel clean and place it in a velvet case.)
Magistrate Evans: The Green Caste represents the intellect of Gor applied to the body. They gave us the gift of agelessness. But they also gave us the science of slavery. They are the mechanics of the human machine.
As Administrators, respect the Green Caste. Because one day, you will be old. Or you will be wounded. And all your gold and all your laws will not save you. Only the man in Green can do that.
(Action: Pick up the assignment scroll.)
Magistrate Evans: Your Assignment for Week 4:
You are a Field Physician attached to the Army of Ar. The battle is over. Two men are brought to your tent, critically wounded.
A Captain of Ar (Your side). He has a stomach wound. Survival chance: 40%.
A General of Cos (The Enemy). He has a leg wound. Survival chance: 80%. You only have supplies/time to save one right now.
The Task: Write a Triage Report (200 words).
The Choice: Who do you treat first?
The Justification: Do you follow the Green Truce (save the one with better odds, the enemy)? or do you follow Patriotism (save your Captain, even if he might die)?
The Consequence: How do you explain your choice to your Commander later?
Next week, in GOR 300, Week 5, we study the Red Caste. The Warriors. The men of steel. We will look at the Code of the Warrior, the tactics of the Phalanx, and the difference between a Soldier and a Killer.
(Action: Sharp nod.)
Magistrate Evans: Class dismissed.
Tal.
